ROUGH GUIDE TO THE GROTESQUE

Scene 1: Mating Ritual/Gestation/Birth
-Parents perform ritual of building artificial sex appendages, then
they do a little dance around the Column and perform mating ritual
-Projection of gestation inside mother, live puppetry of mother
birthing hero. Baby hero consumes Mother and grows to full size.
-Hero emerges from behind projection looking confused and alone.
begins traveling.

Travel Interlude: live camera projects as Marionette puppet travels
through an environment.

Scene 2: Trance Dance of the Elements
-Hero reaches a clearing and hides behind the Column
-Air (wind god 1), Earth, Water, Fire, Plant, Meat, the Dead, and
Nuclear enter one at a time to music, and dance. Music speeds up and
grows more frantic.
-Wind God 2 (bird) appears and battles with Air. other elements are
blown off the stage
-WInd God 3 (wadjina) appears and after some struggling, cuts open
mouth and blows everything away.
-Hero appears from his hiding spot and begins wandering

Travel Interlude

Scene 3: Dragon!/Travel Writer
-Hero encounters a large dragon-like creature which is trying to catch
and eat the travel writer
-Travel writer screams to the audience for help and convinces them to
throw food at the dragon to distract it from his decadent flesh
flavor.
-Hero, off-stage cast and audience throw stuff at the stage.
-The Peeker arrives and chases the 'dragon' away in a barrage of vittles.
-Travel Writer (TW from now on) speaks to Hero while Hero tries to get
him to circle the Column, but TW avoids his advances
-TW decides that he and Hero should travel together. They begin to travel.

Travel Interlude

Scene 4: Meeting of the Shrimpies/Badger Attack!
-Hero and TW arrive in Shrimpie land
-Shrimpies appear! Happy dancing music. They dance about with the
Hero. Hero makes friends and dances with them
-TW sees the Peeker and chases after it. After short interval, TW
reenters shouting warnings about the Badger.
-TW escapes as Shrimpies are attacked. Shrimpies escape and Hero is
left alone with Badger.
-Hero tries to walk around the Column with Badger. Badger laughs and
exits, returns with false image of Forest Woman, does a slow dance
around the Hero and puts him to sleep.
-TW reenters and convinces the audience to make a lot of noise (with
the musical instruments they have).
-As noise is made, Peeker appears and chases Badger away. Hero wakes up.

Travel Interlude

Scene 5: Forest Woman and Evocation
-TW sees Peeker and chases after it.
-Forest Woman appears as Hero is alone.
-Hero tries to get Forest Woman to circle around the Column. She
teases him, but doesn't complete the action, instead luring him deep
into the forest.
-She turns, throws her hair to the side and reveals a rotten tree
trunk in her back. She begins to consume the Hero
-TW enters and frantically convinces audience to evoke the Peeker.
Using plexi-glass panels and ketchup, mustard, and chocolate syrupy
types of stuff, audience members create images of the Peeker
-Panels are stacked together and in a big finale, the Peeker arrives
-Peeker lops off the tree trunk. Forest woman faints into hero's arms.
He begins to eat her
-TW and Peeker walk off stage together, friends now.

final scene (continuation of Scene 5):
-Hero eats Forest Woman. then has stomach ache.
-He regurgitates Forest Woman and turns inside out, transforming into
a shrimpie.
-Shrimpies appear and dance with HeroShrimpie.
-The regurgitated Forest Woman transforms into the Badger, which then
attacks the Shrimpies, scaring away all of them, but catching the
HeroShrimpie.
-BadgerForestWoman eats HeroShrimpie as lights fade out.
